We are here to answer any questions you have about your new job.

Congratulations on your new job and welcome to the team.

Starting a new position is such an exciting time and you may have questions about your next steps. It is critical that you monitor your email during the onboarding process. Make sure to double check your spam or junk folders so you don’t miss important communications from us.

Below are answers to some of the frequently asked questions new employees have. If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please contact us.

WHEN DO I START ORIENTATION?2024-01-31T14:36:42-05:00

New orientation classes begin every two weeks. You will be scheduled to begin orientation in the next available time slot. Your confirmed start date will be emailed to you, and an Ascend team member will go over details with you during your in-person onboarding appointment.

Remember, to attend orientation you must have completed several steps including:

  • Completed your Onboarding in Paylocity where you set up your direct deposit and W2 information
  • You’ve been fingerprinted, and Ascend has received the results
  • You have had a TB skin test and sent the results to Ascend
  • You have attended your in-person onboarding appointment
  • You have submitted your proof of education, and for professional license holders, a copy of your pocket license
  • You have uploaded proof of COVID-19 vaccination or provided your exemption explanation
  • You’ve given Ascend a copy of your driver’s license and auto insurance, if required

Orientation is always a minimum of six days. Some positions and programs require additional training days. Your schedule will be emailed to you 1-2 days before orientation begins so make sure to check your inbox and junk folder.

WHAT TIME DOES ORIENTATION START?2024-03-08T06:56:13-05:00

Your first day of orientation begins promptly at 8:30 AM, and we recommend you arrive by 8:15 AM. Additional orientation days may have different start times and your complete schedule will be emailed to you 1-2 days in advance of orientation beginning. Your instructors will also go over the schedule with you during orientation.

WHERE DO I HAVE TO GO FOR ORIENTATION?2024-01-31T14:46:10-05:00

You will be assigned to the orientation location closest to your new job, depending on instructor and seat availability. Details and the street address for where you have to report for orientation will be emailed to you 1-2 days in advance of orientation beginning. Currently, most orientations take place in Cartersville and in Smyrna.

For orientation, the dress code is business casual.

WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT FOOD/LUNCH WHEN I’M IN ORIENTATION?2024-01-31T14:52:19-05:00

Feel free to bring your lunch, snacks and beverages, or you can leave during the lunch break to grab something at a nearby restaurant.

WILL I BE PAID FOR MY TIME IN ORIENTATION?2024-01-31T14:52:53-05:00

Yes. Please make sure to use the sign-in sheet at orientation so that we can track your hours and ensure your timecard is accurate. Your time in orientation will be added to your timecard and paid at the same wage you will receive when working in your new position. The offer letter you signed states your wage.

WHEN IS PAYDAY?2024-01-31T15:56:10-05:00

Paydays are biweekly on Mondays, unless Monday falls on a holiday. In the event a pay day falls on a holiday, pay checks are issued the preceding Friday. You can download the 2024 Payroll Calendar HERE.

HOW DOES PTO WORK?2024-03-09T08:02:35-05:00

PTO stands for Paid Time Off. Ascend team members working within Highland Rivers enjoy the same generous PTO accrual and use policy as do internal employees. PTO begins to accrue on your first day of work. However, you will not be able to view your balance or use PTO until you’ve been employed 90 days. After 90 days, your PTO balance will be viewable in your Paylocity portal and you can work with your supervisor to request and schedule paid time off.

Ascend and Highland Rivers regular, full-time employees enjoy 10 paid holidays per year. You can download this year’s holiday calendar HERE.

WHAT BENEFITS DO YOU OFFER?2024-02-05T11:12:10-05:00

Ascend offers comprehensive benefits for full-time employees including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Long & Short-Term Disability. You are eligible to enroll in any of the benefit plans individually, or in combination to customize what’s right for you or your family.

Watch your email for The Employee Benefit Guide and important information about deadlines and enrollment details. You will have 14 days from your date of hire to make benefit selections, and any coverage selected becomes effective on your 61st day of employment.

  • Benefit deductions start on the first check date that benefits are active
  • Benefit deductions run through the last check date
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision are pre-tax deductions; while Life, STD, LTD are post-tax deductions
  • Deductions are taken twice per month
  • If benefits deductions are not taken out of the check due to lack of hours, leave, payroll error, etc. they will be taken out of the next available check or billed.

Ascend also provides a feature-rich Employee Assistant Program at no cost to you, and the EAP is available to all employees regardless of enrollment in other benefits.
